Region Associate Chair Updates

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO, AND YOUR GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS CHAIR & BAY REGION ASSOCIATE CHAIR

Celebrated theologian and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Albert Schweitzer said that “success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” Such was, I believe, the recipe for FHBA Senior Leadership’s success in 2025. Passion and joy for building the American Dream and for what FHBA does to support it was on full display at this year’s Fall Convention. As we look ahead to 2026 under the leadership of Chair Elect William Webb, our members have much to be proud of and thankful for. I hope this briefing will enlighten you on 2025’s victories and provide you with insight on what lies ahead. I remain humbly at your service.

2025 New Laws to Live By

New laws to live by - Florida

President Ronald Reagan ably summed up the way most people feel about their government when he said: “the most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’” Whether it is the busybodies’ anonymous approach to policing development, the shaping of communities in the image some government “so-and-so” deemed best without asking the opinion of communities or those who build them, or the “because I said so” approach to an application, We the People are fed up. And sticking with the Gipper, “when you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.” This year’s legislative advocacy, of which I am proud to be a part, was focused on making local government feel that heat. We educated legislators on the pain inflicted on the construction and development industry and how that pain has translated into hampering the American Dream of property owners and renters. Cities and counties cannot fairly cry out for more affordable communities while they impose rules that increase the cost of construction and development. They cannot fairly penalize property owners attempting to rebuild following a devastating natural disaster while simultaneously lauding themselves for being heroes during the very same natural disaster. Last but not least, they will not be allowed to take the Queen Marie Antoinette approach, “let them eat cake,” when they are asked, begged, and pleaded with, to compassionately serve their suffering constituency.

The 2025 special, regular, and extended sessions have been some of the most unusual, surprising, and time consuming of my lifetime. Nonetheless, as a patriot and advocate, I feel honored to serve as a voice for those who build America. I hope this legislative briefing will enlighten you as I remain humbly at your service.

Land of the Free, Because of the Brave

Land of the Free, Because of the Brave

This coming Monday, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who laid down their lives for their country. We must never forget their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the cause of freedom.

As we enjoy the freedoms they fought to protect, let us reflect on the true meaning of this day. It’s more than just the start of summer, it’s more than a barbecue, beach time, or fireworks: it is a solemn reminder of the price paid for our liberty.

May we continually strive to be worthy of their sacrifice. May we live with heartfelt price for our nation and a deep commitment to unity and service, as the Heroes we celebrate did. It has been said that real Heroes don’t wear capes: they wear combat boots and dog tags; but, the Heroes we honor this Monday in May were cloaked in a cape more powerful and meaningful than any made-for-TV superhero cape. Our American Heroes were draped in the ultimate symbol of the freedom they died for — they lay beneath the American flag. There is no better cape, and no more worthy Hero to be draped in it.

At Team Z, We Remember, We Honor, and We Thank Them!

What American Patriots Need to Know about Christ’s Crucifixion

While Easter, Easter Eggs, and the Easter bunny grab headlines in secular circles, Christ’s Crucifixion on Good Friday merits more than a little attention.  What does it mean for us?  Romans 6:23 teaches us that the penalty for sin is death, but God, through his Son Jesus Christ, gave us an immeasurable gift.  So that we might have forgiveness and avoid His Father’s most extreme penalty for our sins, Christ, a pure and perfect being, sacrificed Himself.  He suffered immensely for us.  He took our punishment so that we can receive God’s forgiveness, even though we do not deserve it.  He provided selfless service to us.

How can we recognize the gravity of this immeasurable gift?  By providing selfless service to others, even when it is inconvenient, or even immensely difficult.  We awake every day to reports of political turmoil.  Hate.  Reminders of how and why we must despise and fight our fellow countrymen and women and everything the “opposing camp” stands for.

But it needn’t be so.  Remember that Americans are more alike than different.  We are all imperfect, but we are also all children of God.  As our Declaration of Independence reminds us, we were all endowed by our Creator, with certain unalienable rights:  life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.   God gave us all, no matter our political affiliation, the great gift of life.  Our Country, and indeed the world, will be a better place if we forgive perceived trespasses against us by those we disagree with; if we take a moment to perform an act of kindness for someone we don’t understand or someone we are told to dislike; if we emulate Jesus by serving another, whether we perceive they deserve it or not.

May God Bless All Americans, and may you take respite this Good Friday in the solemn gift of Christ’s crucifixion, and celebrate this Easter Sunday in the miracle of His Resurrection.
